What you can’t see in this video of “Love Is A Stranger” by Eurythmics is the make-up artist lying on the floor in the back of the black cab. The make-up artist is Tim, a lovely man who was born in Pittsburgh but briefly worked in London. Tim always spoke with a British accent–“Well, when you’re from Pittsburgh”–I’m sure it’s one of many reasons why his boyfriend Harry found him so attractive. Harry was my friend, we started as roommates on Fire Island when we worked at the Cherry Grove Beach Hotel. Toward the end of summer, Harry was infected with HIV and he passed away a year later. Every time I hear this song, I always think of Tim and Harry. Especially Harry.
